Roy Blunt Luminary Park team is excited to announce the start of construction on a new green space over I-670 in downtown Kansas City. Phase One construction work begins this winter and will require closing nearby city streets and Interstate 670 (I-670).
I-670 Closure
- Both directions of I-670 from Interstate 35 to U.S. 71 are scheduled to close December 2, 2026, through September 2028.
- Traffic will primarily be detoured to I-70, with routes coordinated around other interstate projects.
City Streets
- Eastbound and westbound Truman Road will close from Broadway Boulevard to Baltimore Avenue.
- Periodic partial street and lane closures on Truman Road, Wyandotte Street, and Baltimore Avenue are scheduled to continue through spring 2029.
Plan your alternative route now
We know these closures will affect how people navigate in and around downtown. The closure covers a large area, so no single detour works for everyone. Take time now to find alternative routes for your regular trips before December 2026.
- Improve I-70 KC is a separate project that will close I-70 from The Paseo to Van Brunt Boulevard from early January through December 2027. Learn more at http://www.modot.org/i-70-
